What does success look like to you?
Being able to buy a block of cheese without being consistently baffled by how expensive it is.
In another life, if you weren’t an actor, what would you be?
A fishmonger. I love seafood and am fascinated by it. I once watched a video on YouTube where a guy filleted a salmon in about 15 seconds and it was mesmerising.
If you had a YouTube channel, what would you vlog about?
Probably filleting salmon.
What causes are you most passionate about?
Male mental health is really important to me. As I’ve grown up I’ve become so much more aware of how fragile it is and have come into direct contact with guys who are really struggling and don’t feel comfortable expressing their feelings. This can lead to catastrophic results and It’s such a consistent issue that it’s clear we are currently doing something very wrong. This ties in heavily with toxic masculinity and the repercussions of that for men and women everywhere.
If you could go back in time and give your younger self a message, what would you say?
Stop planning all the cool beards you’re going to grow when you’re older - Apart from about six individual hairs It’s just not gunna happen mate.
What is your personal mantra?
One of my best friends sometimes says ‘as long as you’ve a good pair of shoes and a tenner in your pocket, it’s all going to be okay’ and I like that. It also doubles up as a great way of justifying an expensive pair of new sneaks.
What song is your karaoke go to?
Sexual healing - Marvin Gaye, next question.
What really bugs you?
People that get annoyed at double dipping. Look, if you’re happy to kiss someone but not happy for me to dip my half eaten Dorito back in the guac, then I’m sorry but you’re getting kicked out of my Mexican themed drinks do. Adios, amigo.
What are three things that most people wouldn't know about you?
I kept (and deeply loved) stick insects as a child. Every now and then I record experimental lo-fi music in my bedroom under the pseudonym ‘Edward Lobsterhands’ and I am the defensive backbone of a terrible South London based five-aside football team known only as ‘The Geese’.
Do you have any favourite local haunts or hangouts?
Broadway market and Tooting market in south London are a lot of fun. They’re right next to each other and there’s a variety of bars and restaurants. On a Friday or Saturday night, it’s got a great atmosphere. If you think you’re cool and that Brixton market is too obvious you’ll fit right in.
What or who inspires you?
My girlfriend inspired me to write a poem about her once. I remember there were lots of metaphors involving sea creatures and it’s absolutely not appropriate for public viewing. Other than that, I recently finished shooting series two of Killing Eve and Sandra Oh was incredible to work with. We had quite a lot of scenes together and she is the epitome of class and acting finesse. She makes a hard job look ridiculously easy.
What’s next?
I have the second series of ‘A Discovery Of Witches’ coming up to film during 2019. We had so much fun filming the first series so I’m really excited to see everyone again and get back into that. I’d also love to do some more theatre and maybe even try some writing.
